Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has blamed BNP, one of the major political parties in Bangladesh, for obstructing the 12th parliamentary election scheduled for January 7.
He also called upon the authorities concerned in the United States to impose sanctions on the party men for their attempt to foil the national election in Bangladesh.
Quader came up with the call while talking to reporters at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka on Monday.
“BNP is actively distributing leaflets and carrying out a noncooperation movement aiming to create hindrance for resisting the peaceful election,” he said.
Earlier, the US, as per its visa policy, stated that the country would impose sanctions on those who would create disturbance to spoil the national election, Quader said.
“I urge the American representatives who are staying in Bangladesh at this moment to pay their attention in this regard,” he said.
In May, America announced a new visa policy encouraging people here to hold the upcoming parliamentary election in a free and fair manner, fostering democratic practices.
As per the visa policy, the US will bring individuals under the coverage of the new visa policy who will create hindrances on the way of holding the national election in a peaceful atmosphere.
